2014 WILLIAM HICKS '15

William, a junior from Dallas, Texas, joined the rugby team freshman year and instantly fell in love with the camaraderie and collegiality of the sport.  William is a political economy major with a concentration in international relations. He was elected co-Captain of the Princeton Rugby Team for the 2014/2015 season and he is also the current President of the Rugby Club.

William was a huge reason why our team reached the USA Rugby Sweet 16 this year. In the first game of the fall season, our highly experienced Australian fly half went down with a season-ending ACL injury. William immediately stepped in to take over what is one of the most critical positions on the team. Showing great courage, tenacity and composure, he quickly matured into a very capable fly half. Despite a difficult start to the fall season where we suffered some narrow defeats, William was always positive and helped inspire the team to finish strong resulting in some very satisfying wins in the second half of the fall season. He came back faster, stronger and more experienced in the spring and led the team to a spectacular series of wins, which resulted in our team qualifying for the National Playoffs this spring. William leads from the front both on and off the pitch. He is always prepared to push himself to the absolute limits and do whatever it takes to help our team succeed. I am very proud and happy to nominate William Hicks for this year’s Phil Rogers Award.
